Looking for a laptop. Does sl/laptops use designated drivers?

Second Life doesn't require "special" video drivers, but some work well, some not so well, and some not at all.

Many laptops come with "integrated" graphics, and these tend not to work, or to work poorly, with Second Life.  

The Nvidia GeForce graphics cards are known to work well with SL, because they have good performance with OpenGL, the graphics protocol that SL uses.

i think you mean dedicated graphic card/chip, not drivers... and yes thats true.

Alwin and Lindal are right. You are looking for a gaming machine. It will cost more.

For good performance and quality rendering you should be looking at a machine with an i5 or better Intel CPU. 3ghz CPU speed is good, 4ghz is better but costs more.

You also want a dedicated graphics processor - GPU. As Lindal said, NVIDIA is generally considered the best choice for Second Life. Nvidia umber their processor ships. The GTX versions work best for SL. Right now the 970 and 980 are recommended by most, but they are costly. They do offer the ability to support VR headsets, which is the goal of Project Sansar... the future of virtual worlds according to many.
