Think I have a graphics problem having to do with older shoes look like blocks. (Pre Alphas)

It is a graphics "thing", but it's nothing you did.  Your older (pre-2012) shoes were made with invisiprims.  That old hack was the only way we had to hide the ugly bits of our feet before Linden Lab introduced alpha masks.  They warned us a long time ago that the time would come when the invisiprim hack would be totally disabled, and that day has come. The smart thing to do now is to find alpha masks that will work for your shoes.  If you have mod perms, rip the invisiprims out of them so that they don't render as black blobs.  If not, retire them to the Nostalgia folder in your inventory.  There is a chance that LL may modify things so that the black blob feature will go away in the future, but it's not going to happen today.
