Currently, I've gotten listings for the New Port Yacht Club, the Bay City Aquarium, the Bayjou Theater, and the Bay City Community Center in there. Galileo Moleno got his spot, 1 Argos Plaza in there, and the Lab already has Moose Beach presented (twice, in fact). I'd love to see more of our builds presented to Second Life's other Residents. The more the merrier! Let's see more of our clubs, hot spots, and other great places in there! For more information and a link to the submission form, go to the Second Life Wiki. Three prizes are to be awarded for decorating your Bay City property: Best in Spooky, Best in Autumn, and Best in Art Deco. The winners of the contest will be announced in the November issue of the “Post” and will be the lucky recipients of the highly coveted “Moley” award!!! Marianne McCann Posted September 20, 2011 Share Posted September 20, 2011 A brief mention of the theme of Bay City, based off a conversation I had the other day: Most people, when they first hear the name "Bay City," think of San Francisco. It is a common expectation, particularly given Linden Lab's own history in SF. Yet things are more complicated than that. Nova Albion -- directly to Bay City's east -- fits this bill closer; from the name (New Albion/Nova Albion being the part of the Pacific coast explored by Sir Francis Drake, believed to be around the San Francisco area) to some of the textures used in the infrastructure of that area. The actual name, "Bay City" has no extra meaning behind it, being simply a case where the LDPW needed a name for a coastal area. And while the West side of Bay City does have many regions with a distinct New England naming structure, this also has no particular extra meaning behind it. Indeed, Bay City's theme was described on the Second Life blog, in May 2008 as the following: "the American urban experience, between 1940 and 1965, perhaps best typified by Chicago circa 1950 and marked by a distinct deco influence." This is not a rural/pastoral location (Nautilus City, for what its worth, may be a bit closer to such an ideal), nor a "tropical hideaway," etc. Consider it a location for skyscrapers, with an edge towards art deco style and architectural flourish. Bring your boat decked out in its finest for a light parade around the bay.. then come skate at the fairgrounds for some great holiday fun! The light parade is to start at December 22 6:30 PM SLT followed by the party at 7-9 PM SLT. Great fun! free skates!! Come one Come all! It's officially a party!!!
