It wouldn't hurt for the existing Mole textures to be updated with Materials here and there, and some judicious replacement of prim with Mesh could recover Land Impact to use for other stuff. In fact, I seem to recall that everything is built to 10m maximum dimensions (a Havok "collision superstition" that long outlasted its usefulness, but may have been the limit when BC was first built), and I doubt there's much Convex Hull applied to prim linksets.

Personally, though, the first thing I'd go about replacing is vegetation: the original Linden plants are terrifically efficient (and the Moles use them creatively) but they're everywhere, and some of them are just too butt-ugly to blend into the background. That goddamn "eucalyptus" tree was hideous from the start, and time has done it no favors.

All that said, though, the Moles do produce new infrastructure builds (in the period theme, of course) from time to time, usually in the "west end", replacing old Teen Grid duplicates of "east end" features.

Bay City -- Mole Day 2018

It’s nearly that time of year again when we look for furry little shadows. You do have your shadows enabled, no? It’s not about groundhogs — it’s about the Moles of the Linden Department of Public Works!

Initially honored in 2010 by Residents of Bay City, Mole Day is set aside to show appreciation for The Moles and their many contributions to Bay City and the rest of the Second Life® Grid.

Normally held on the same day as Groundhog Day, this year’s annual Mole Day will again take place at the Bay City Fairgrounds (SLurl) February 3rd commencing at 11:00 a.m. SLT. The event will feature DJ GoSpeed Racer of KONA stream followed by Stratus Mactavish performing live at 12:00 p.m. SLT.

“Moles” are members of The Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW). The LDPW is a program focused on improvements related to the experience of living on or visiting the Linden Mainland. The LDPW organizes teams of Resident builders, artists, and scripters (the Moles!) to create new content on Linden Lab’s behalf and to the benefit of all. These Residents have the last name “Mole.”

Moles essentially build all of the grid’s infrastructure: the public roads and railways, items in our coastal waterways and protected lands, and even larger scale projects like the Linden Homes regions, premium content, and experiences, and much more.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest group for Residents of Bay City.

For more information, or to participate in the event, please contact Marianne McCann.

SL still has moles?

Yes. No matter how much they need to save money, they have to have hire some builders if only to do maintenenace.

Where is there substantial LL-funded building going on?

They rebuilt the Portal Parks recently and I think they also have upgrade the Social Islands. But if you mean brand new projects, Horizons may have been the last, although you never know.

You can only get it from the mailbox if you own a parcel or the group owned land control box if you are in a group that owns the parcel. I've bad pretty bad luck with the control box though, for some reason it doesn't seem to work most of the time for my avatar but it works with my rental avatar.

Hi fellow Bay City residents. I'm guilty of owning one of those empty parcels in Bay City. I use it for prims for my main parcel but I'd like to put a building on it that is in theme. I have a bit over 1000 prims spare ( but obviously don't want to use all of those) and the parcel is 20m x 30m canal front, no road access. Anyone have any great ideas?

Wow, in Bay City that's a large parcel to not have road access.

For canal front, the predominant zoning is heavy industry with a lot of heavy metals to dispose of, especially in the west end of town with the Cape Cod region names.

A little small for an oil refinery.  Some sort of waste disposal facility would be in period but definitely industrial.

Like this?

This is a well done piece of mole work. The pumping station has pumps and an engine, a control room with a map of the sewer system, and a pipeline out into the bay out back.
