Gray blocks appear over my shoes when I rez them - even new demos. Only shoies

Those are the old "invisiprims" formerly used to hide the avatar foot. With the current release viewer they're displayed as gray or black blobs. It's only the Linden Lab viewer that does this currently and there is a plan for turning them back on eventually but it would be good to get out of the habit of using invisiprims at all - they don't work that well and there are better options for most shoes.

I recognize the store you're at as being G Field - their shoes come with alphas that make the invisiprims unnecessary and they have a feature that allows the invisiprims to be switched off completely.

If you have other shoes from other stores that are modifiable you can either unlink or delete the invisiprims or retexture them with a transparent texture.
