If you are at work or at school you wont be able to reach SL through the firewall.

If you are at home:

Hit Windows R (Windows key is the one between Ctrl and Alt)
Type "cmd" and hit enter
type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter

Try that.

If that does not work, turn off the computer, the router, cable modem, eveything that is part of your internet connection.  Then turn each device on one at a time waiting 90 seconds before you turn on the next.  The PC needs to be the last one you turn on; other than that the order does not matter.

If you still cannot log into Second Life,  you will need to file a support ticket (unless someone else here has another idea to help)

Hi Olimpia,

Rhonda's covered a good many possible causes for DNS problems, I'll add one more. There are many servers and services your viewer must access to operate within SL. Those servers are different than those that provide the SL website. It's possible that the DNS servers your computer is set to access are not aware of the addresses of the SL grid servers. You might try switching over to Google's Public DNS servers, which are aware of SL.

Here are instructions for doing that...

Good luck!
