How do I edit a modifiable fire pit using edit linked parts in build/edit

1) Open the edit tool (CTRL 3).

2) Check the Edit linked box.



3) Select the prim you want to edit.   Check it is the only one highlighted (in blue, if it's a child prim), and go ahead and make the change you want.

If the item is copy and well as mod, you don't need to worry -- if you mess up, then you can simply delete it, rez a new copy and try again.

However, it may be useful to remember that if you do want to reverse a change, select the affected prim and use CTRL Z to reverse changes, one at a time.

First things first, make sure you have a 'clean' unmodified copy of the firepit so that you can revert to that if you mess anything up. Keep this copy safe.

For modifying the pipe, you will probably need Edit Linked Parts from the Edit tool, then to select the pipe element that you want to re-size (using the Scale tool in Edit). Select the correct Axis and shrink the pipe as required.

Additional parts of the pipe may need repositioning, using the Position tool in Edit.
