Now don't get me wrong, I fully support the right of anyone to run an adult sim, that's fine, I enjoy such places myself, and SL is an open market economy, and we're all here to have fun and do things our own way.

But Linden Labs, please, I beg you, PLEASE do something so we don't all always have to see graphic pornographic art in search ads.  YES Im aware of "untick adult" to eliminate all adult matter but if one wishes to buy any such minor trivial little things as hair, skin, jewelery, clothing, or accessories, then enabling "adult" almost invariably becomes necessary. Images of hotties in juicy scenes are fine for those that like it, but we're not all looking for that all of the time. It would be nice to have a way to just disable the images, maybe even as simple as ticking a button.

?????

I never listed my fashion items under adult but general as they are not the adult rated like.

I doubt a lot of merchants limits their target audience by rating their fashion items as adult either.

From a merchant point of view, if the adult rating is not necesary, then it would be stupid to still set it for an item.

Except if you are looking for a specific kind of clothes, hair, shoes etc you dont need to have the 'adult filter" checked in your Marketplace

It's a sad sign of the times, when, without the OP mentioning it, people assume s/he's talking about the Marketplace <sigh>.

I actually assumed that the OP meant the inworld search. I never even thought of the marketplace until you mentioned it.

Well, I've reread the OP twice and I see nothing in it to indicate the marketplace. S/he may have been talking about the marketplace but there's nothing in the post to indicate it. So it's still a sad sign of the times that people just assume that the marketplace is what's meant.

Just out of interest, the skimpily clad ads come up all the time in the inworld search, so I naturally thought s/he meant that, although there's nothing in the OP to indicate that either.

Well i did re read the OP aswell, and i see nothing that indicate it's inworld either.

Maybe bec i do fashion shopping more often than you, Phil, but it look totally weird to me to type "long pants" or "gown" in the inworld search. Instead ill use the MP search as a catalogue and if i want to go and look inworld i ll follow the link given on the listing page.

On top, in the sl search you see only 1 pic at once, and not a full page of pics.

And maybe bec i prob do more fashion shopping than you, Steph, i ve seen the pics she's talking about, and yes, depending what you type in the search, you will get tons of porn pics spread all over your screen. And trust me, its not bec you have typed a nasty word.... Im not going to comment how works the MP search for now... but well... i can sum up with : it doesnt work at all.

And dont be sad, Phil, about ppl assuming right away the MP, you know i always prefered to buy inworld, i mostly use the MP as a catalogue and as a merchant, 80 % of my sales are done inworld and not on the MP. And yes, i know that usually it's the contrary, but as you know me, i have a high sense of contradiction :smileywink:

Porn.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Perhaps the word is being used loosely here.

I'm certainly no prude but whether it be InWorld or Marketplace search that does not mean that I want some of the things I see thrown in my face.

Some of us did raise the issue in a thread in the Merchants Forum and a Linden said that they would look into it.  But I doubt it will change.

I don't include "Adult" in search for either MP or in-world and I have not noticed a shortage in results for skins, hair, clothes, accessories, jewelry, furniture, etc.   When I did have "Adult" turned on in the in-world search, at one time, it was the events that had the most extreme racy-est graphic ads and that did lead to me turning off "Adult" on the in-world search.  But I don't think I've been deprived of finding the types of things that I am interested in.

I have been considering a post similar to this but have been putting it off. So I am glad to see this here now. For me its the in-world search, and not searching for anything, just opening it is all you need to do. And no I can't turn off adult, there are many places that are adult that don't even have nudity. Singers that only sing and are paid by venues to sing even on adult sims. My problem is I need to look over my shoulder just to use search, I am embarrassed at what I see on the screen. And yes it is porn, pure and simple, it-is-porn. It is the one deciding factor for me not telling anyone that I use Second Life. I would like to be able to just turn off graphics in in-world search. (And no its not every time you open search, but once is more than enough!)
And I do not care if you or anyone likes porn, but there is a time and place for everything, and when all you do is open search, in-world search, that is not the place.
Thank you LaylaDantour for your post.

I just did a little test search (inworld, of course). I'm used to seeing a row of skimpily clad ladies acress the search box but I never really looked at them before. They are Events but I wouldn't say that the pictures are pornographic. What most of them offer would be pornographic if it were done publically, but it's not. What they do offer was something of an eye-opener for me. I didn't know that sort of business existed in SL. (I live a sheltered SLife:) )

Anyway, the test was to turn A-rated off, and it worked. The Events were then M-rated. Turning A off doesn't survive closing and reopening the search, but I'm sure that it can be turned off in Preferences. I only did one little test but, if the result was typical, then that's what the OP ought to do - turn it off in Prefs, and only turn it on if and when he wants A-rated stuff.

I don't want to have to untick adult either. I don't prefer to see adult material, but if I have tenants who set their avatar to "adult" or stores on "adult" sims even where not everything is adult, and even have to go to my few adult parcels in Zindra to help tenants, I don't want to keep toggling back and forth in preferences which loads so slowly for me, just to see a tenant or a parcel.

And let me put a finer point on it: I DON'T WANT TO SEE GROSS HENTAI PORN WITH CHILDREN EVERY TIME I USE SEARCH.

I've abuse-reported these Hentai clubs with the not-even-disguised very young girls in the ads in very graphic and gross positions. Child pornography is not allowed in SL by the TOS. So why don't they remove this gross stuff?! I've abuse-reported it dozens of times and it keeps coming back.

If LL can't figure out how to ban *child porn* -- and possibly other very graphic stuff other people in this threat don't want to see -- can they make a category called "XXX"? No, they can't because very graphic or violent sexual images are NOT ALLOWED under their TOS. This is supposedly hard to determine and people vary, but actually, I don't think so. If everyone in this thread abuse-reports the hard core stuff at the top of the ads - usually Hentai -- then we may get somewhere.

She's not talking about the MP, where you can set general and mature and get rid of adult and not suffer as terrible -- inworld it is different because you physically can't teleport then to anything marked "adult," even your own land.

So let me put it to you very pointedly: you don't mind child pornography in very graphic Hentai ads always at the top of the search? Ok, then.

Yes, you said it all -- it's not that you *discover* these awful images by searching for key words -- they are forced on you merely because you have "A" checked off and you simply open up the search browser. They are on top. I know exactly what you mean. It's time for the Lindens to end this and people who don't like having that sort of image suppressed it to stop their violent threats.
