Benkmans
I noticed my L$ balance was -1, and checked on my account page. I couldn't understand this as I've never had any L$ and assumed I'd never spent any. On checking my details the L$ -1 was a group liability for a group I didn't know I belonged to and certainly was unaware that I would have liabilities for. It's a trivial amount of money and I can easily get a wealthy alt to pay it off, but I'm concerned that if it's possible for this to happen with L$ 1, it could also happen with L$ 100 or L$ 1000. Kelli May
A negative balance doesn't mean you owe L$. In fact, I don't believe you can actually go into negative balance... if something tries to take L$ when you have none, it just fails. Seeing a negative balance normally means the system can't properly connect to whatever server holds your balance. Changing sims and having a friend/alt pay you L$1 usually fixes it. If you actually have L$0, there's no real point, and it'll fix itself eventually anyway. That said, it's worth keeping an eye on any group liabilities. They might cost you money, but they won't put you into negative balance.
Phil Deakins
Each group can have its liabilities shared between the members. It used to be set that way by default, and many group owners weren't even aware of it. It may still be set that way by default. The liability is the 30L a week to have the group shown in search. The groups you are likely to be in, will have a lot more than 30 members, and the 30L is shared out betweern them - minimum 1L, of course. So who gets to pay the 1Ls is pot luck. You won't get it every time. That's the downside, but it's only a small down. There is a up side too. When a group is set that way, its member also get an equal share of any money it makes. So, if the owner inadvertantly sold some group land without changing that setting, you'd get a share of the proceeds If you want to stay in the group, and you're not keen on forking out 1L from time time, and there's no reason why you be keen on that, the best thing to do it inform the owner about that setting. The chances, s/he isn't even aware that the members are paying it. One more thing. The group owner can't do anything that would remove 100L or 1000L from your account. It can be fun to make an alt that is 100% free. Shop for group gits, go on hunts, and generally try to make the best looking avatar you can with no money. Anyway, I know someone very close to me who has been doing this for years. She had a -4L$ balance until a shop with a random giveaway orb gave her 5L$. She was more than a little upset because after years of being 100% free she then had a balance of 1 Linden.
steph Arnott
You can go negative, if you de partner and have insufficient funds it will drop you into negative. That as far as i am aware is the only one that is the exception.to the rule.

Rhonda Huntress
Just a little more trivia but there was a time when you could not buy 0L$ items if your balance was negative. This has been changed now but freebie hunters also had that to deal with for awhile.
