:smileyfrustrated: Hi again,

Could someone please tell me how to get the bed I just unboxed and opened on to my arm to unattach and stay on the floor?

I am using the new Adam mesh Avatar in the free Linden house I picked.

I have tried editing it, then moving and rotating it on to the floor, but when I try many methods to separate it from me nothing works. It just follows my head and either goes under the floor or up in the air.

Thanks again! :smileyhappy:

This was hands down the hardest thing for me to figure out back in my newbie days, so I empathise with the confusion. If you want to rez something in-world (and not attached to your avatar) you have to drag it from inventory to the ground. Unlike almost every other action on items in inventory, there's no menu option for it. That's what confused me, and I guess other people too. I'll admit that for a short time, the only way I could work out to rez things was to wear them then drop them. :smileyembarrassed:

To further confuse the issue, there are places where you can rez stuff, and places where you can't (oh, and places where it appears you can rez things, but autoreturn sends them back) . That's something else that's not obvious to a beginner.

Good point, Kelli. You need to make sure you have rez permissions in the area (sandboxes and any land you have work, as do some other areas).

Add to that that you can't always rez an object onto mesh (like the floor of your mesh house or a nice looking landscape), and you can have some headaches. If you do try to rez a no-copy item into mesh, just relog and it will be back in your inventory (maybe in the lost and found/returned items folder).

... and there must be enough spare prims to handle the rezzed object's land impact.

(But in light of the Friday Drama for Sunday Ever So Clever Revolutionaries thread, or whatever it's momentarily called, one may suspect our OP of a "special' appreciation for responses. Or perhaps not, as that would be very nearly as witty as a bucket of lukewarm spit.)

The OP is not nearly sufficiently "ever so clever" or "revolutionary" to feel at home there, I'm afraid.

Moreover, as he seems pretty blandly sincere in his confuddlement and desire for advice, he is also much too much to the point and relevant.

Your parenthetical aside, however . . .

:smileyhappy: Thanks to all of you I have made my first Tutorial in Second Life.
This will describe how to open the Box with the Bed that was purchased, which can also be applied to many other objects.  Moving the bed around is also described.
Any other suggestions are very welcome!

Open a Mesh-Bed -  Tutorial

Purchase Bed.
In your Second Life Screen go to Me/Inventory - top left.
Find the Bed in the Received items at the bottom.
Open the yellow folder and right click on the orange box.
..Choose Add to HUD bottom right.
Right click on the new object that appeared on the bottom right and choose drop.
A box with pictures or stuff will appear in your room.
Forget the box for now and go look in the green "MY INVENTORY" tab - look down and you will find a
new yellow folder with the type of bed that you bought.
You might have to the close the INVENTORY folder then re-open it to see the new yellow folder.
Open the yellow folder and drag the orange box to the floor of your house, and there it is!
Now right click on the delivery box and "Delete" it. Congratulations (I hope).

Figuring this method out, and for other items as well, took me at least five days and many
frustrating hours, because the instructions that come with new products do not describe this
process.
If you wear, or attach the product to your Avatar while trying to open it your Avatar may be
disfigured in some way and you will have to go back to "APPEARANCE" and "Wear - Add to Current
Outfit" to refresh yourself.

The next big lesson is to learn how to move the bed around, then change the color or other
choices. Then of course you have to learn how to use the bed and have fun with a partner!
I have finally found a bed that works great and is fairly easy and user friendly to use. If you ask me I
will tell you what it is, if that is allowed.

Final tip on how to move your bed:

Right click on the bed and choose "Edit".
You will see red, green and blue arrows. Click on one of the arrows and drag your mouse to see
which way the bed moves, and move it to where you want.
Next go back to the dark grey menu box that opened after clicking "Edit" and you will see at the
top left a white dot next to "Move".
Now click the circle next to "Rotate" and you will see Red, Green and Blue circles - left click
your mouse on one of them and you will see that you can rotate the bed in different ways.
At the end try and get the bed flat and resting on the floor.

This method should work on almost any object except Avatars.
I am still a Newbie and trying to learn all of the hundreds of lessons needed to live in Second
Life, some of what I just shared with you may not be completely correct, and hopefully others will
add to this.

Good luck and have fun!
Jake

A lot of the details in that description are specific to the item you purchased and purchases from the Marketplace. A general description of how to unpack something would have to be a flowchart to cover all the possibilities (and merchants keep coming up with new ways of packaging/distributing). There are some good points in there, however - especially "Add"  rather than "Wear" to avoid knocking off pieces of avatar.
