Your appearance files are not downloading completely from the servers as you log in so your viewer is doing the best it can to at least show the shape of your avatar. Assuming that you are using a computer than meets the system requirements for SL, that generally means that you have a flaky Internet connection. If you've been using a wireless connection, replace it with a direct cable connection if you can. Plenty of people have no trouble at all with wifi or satellite connections, but Linden Lab does not recommend or support them. You might also try rebooting both your modem and your router and then restarting everything. That will clear their RAM and give them a better chance at making a solid connection to an IP address.
