Do you understand that rigged mesh cannot be edited in the viewer? No move or rotate. That is handled outside SL. The 'grid mode' you ask about... I think you mean the visual appearance of rigged mesh in edit mode, which is to tell you it is 'rigged' mesh and what you can do with it is limited.
