The adoption you are contemplating is role-play. Since it's not real, there are no legal formalities involved. Structure it any way you wish. However, as with any other form of role-play, the people playing the roles will have varying degrees of investment in their characters, and therefore different degrees of vulnerability.

And finally, anything and everything you do in SL is governed by the Linden Lab/SL Terms of Service, Community Standards and Community Participation Guidelines.
