I was just wondering what everybody's experiences were with Dungeons and Dragons in Secondlife. By the term D&D, I mean any pen and paper tabletop game, Pathfinder, FFG Star Wars, The One Ring, etc.

I was debating starting up a group where GMs could run games either in SL, or using a virtual table top like roll20 or Fantasy Grounds. I just don't know how much of an interest there is in this, OR if there's something like this already out there.

Feel free to hit me up in-world with any remarks/questions/conversation

I'd be up for a tabletop roleplaying game in SL. I think it'd be a lot of fun to do in world, rather than over somthing like Roll20 (which there's nothing wrong with). There just seems something charmingly entertaining about sitting in a mall food court or resident's basement inworld and playing a roleplaying game.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade...you guys have fun, and let me know how it goes!

I used to play D&D in Real Life (wow...what a strange sentence THAT is!)  It was fun.  But I think that a lot of what made it fun was actual people actually being there.  I have a lot of doubts about how the experience would translate to an SL setting.

Besides, there's already lots of fantasy roleplay that IS suitable for the platform.

As an item of interest, and going in the other direction...some friends of mine play LIVE roleplaying games in Real Life...they put on costumes, grab non-lethal foam weapons, and go camping for a few days with a bunch of fellow crazies.  They all act out a D&D adventure, running hither and yon over the landscape.  The organization that puts these together is the International Fantasy Gaming Society, IFGS.  They were inspired by Larry Niven and Steven Barnes's tales of "Dream Park".

See: Jesus

Looked it up: something like 1/4 of Mexico males carry the name Jesus and 33% of all Latinos carry the name Jesus, most with the surname of Just-Kidding.

As for Dungeons and Dragons - a long time before my time in its hey-day, apparently. Though I've seen the old cartoons (Netflix is your friend, people) and it took me a while to grasp what it was all about. I've since learned a lot more and there are many D&D role-play reagions, though they don;t call themselves this or follow any particular set of rules (Back when Teribithia was a big thing I role-played there, I never knew what a Drow was, now I do). I think the current (closest) variation is Chronicles of Lynnia - calling themselves "Medieval" genre, but it's a lot more "Fantasy" genre than Medieval.

I had a few friends that would do this ages ago and basically use SL to make a story mockup. They later started using roblox since it's the same thing just way quicker to work in. Then they had an actual artist join the group who would do effectively courtroom sketches of everything on the fly.

Hey guys, i don't quite know if anyone is still reading this blog post but with all the advancements in Tabletop Games systems and dioramas and such, we are now actually able to play D&D in SL now. and it is really just about sitting around the table, telling stories, play with your imagination and roll dice! you can use outside system to keep tracks of your player sheet which we will one day develop that, or just use NCs but right now, all the miniatures, mapboards, dioramas, are all compatible with the same Tabletop systems for your D&D, Critical Roles, Pathfinders, you name it, 's experience!

The diorama below was the one that we used to play a D&D 5e game with the theme of murder mystery and all of our character infos are kept under NCs forms and we used voices, but that's optional, but since i have designed the table in a way that it will be within 5m for sure, voicing will be cleared and some of us types and that's all cool too, as long as everyone's cool its cool!

Well if you are still checking this blog post, just really want to let you know that it is possible now and we have a place for you to gather and play too if you don't wanna rez it at home.

Sounds interesting but if you have a dozen people and if the system is not a quick play system it could get bogged down a bit.  A combination of dice role and roleplay perhaps.  A roleplay area based upon a D&D supplement like Forgotten Realms for example would be interesting though.

Our Tabletop Games system are mainly focused on miniatures based and where to move them on the scenery mapboard, it is simple but powerful enough that it can mimick almost any games from RL into SL. We have functional dice for you to play with, while my dioramas i thought would be most appropriate for games like D&D 5e, it can be brought further into other games as well. And if you think about it, the nature of D&D 5e, is moving your miniatures on the maps, roll some dice, roleplay your rolls and actions and listen to the DMs unfolding the story.

All of which are mimicked now with our Tabletop Game system. But yes it will be slowed down when it comes to typings like you mentioned with lots of people but as I reckon, the ideal numbers of players of D&D usually wouldn't exceed 6-7 players and 1 DM so that can be overcome, some may want to use voice, some may not but as long as everyone is cool and is having fun, thats all that matters. And back to D&D nature, the session goes as long as you want to go and you can always join back in the story even if you missed one or two sessions too.
