I have just upgraded a small Lenovo 'Think Pad' from W7 to w10. The SL viewer opened fine with W7 but now with W10 i am receiving the 'Second Life is unable to run because your video card drivers did not install properly....' message.

I have uninstalled/re-installed the video card drivers, so presumably they are the lastest version(s) for the hardware, Windows is also confirming I have the lastest drivers installed. I have also re-installed the viewer but to no avail on either count.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,, (perhaps someone else is having/had similar issues post upgrade to Windows 10?)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Windows 10 and  it's "universal" drivers.

I had similar issues that could temporarily be solved by replacing the graphics drivers provided by microsoft with the ones from the GPU manufacturer's website. Unfortunately Win10 always removed these and replaced them with the  dysfunctional microsoft universal  drivers.
I finally downgraded the system again to win 7 which is less intrusive when it comes to force installing drivers without the user's consent.

Hello Jean and thanks for your reply, i have now in fact rolled back to Windows 7 and everything works fine again so i guess i have a 'fix' of sorts. But yes, i visited the Intel website for a manual download of the graphics driver, but my hardware was not even listed, these small tablet affairs tend to have firmware embedded as opposed to anything else which they dont like anyone fiddling with as a general rule. However as I say, i'm back up and running, I'm happy. goodbye Windows 10 for now, You have a month of roll-back time btw, so if you are having issues restore while you can!

if it aint broke, dont fix it!

For win10 you need working win10 drivers for your hardware. If that isn't available then you can not upgrade to win10.

If you ignore that you are with the windows generic drivers which aren't good for playing.

In case win10 overrides your special drivers with the microsoft drivers just switch off the automatic driver install. (I do that anyways - drivers are my job not some auto updaters)

One caution:

If you go back to win 7 the only Windows Update is to Win 10. I read that you must right click the Windows flag "the one that you use to check for a free upgrade" and cancel the reversation. Don't know if you get win 7 updates after that. I wound up giving 10 another try.
