Good evening! First and foremost, much respect for every guy out there who has managed to put together a good-looking male avatar. I recently decided to give it a go and see what I could make on that side of the fence, and have decided that it must be one of the most difficult things I have ever tried to do. Everything feels so 5 years ago!

Moving right along, I am at the point now where I am trying to build a diverse wardrobe for this guy and have identified one commonly seen oddity that I would like some help with. The vast majority of the pants and shorts I have tried on for this avatar are hanging considerably lower than they should be.

Initially, I thought this was due to my having picked up the Slink male body and it was some inconsistency between the hips on the system avatar and the hips on the mesh body. Then this month came along and I noticed several brand-new offerings with Slink sizes... and they are doing it too.

Does anyone have some clue as to what the problem might be? If it were /all/ pants, I could understand that there is an incompatibility issue somewhere. Maybe 1 out of every 10 demos I try actually manage to sit where they are meant to be, so I think there's something very obvious going on here that I am just painfully ignorant toward.

If anyone has any insight they would care to offer, I would certainly like to hear it! Dressing this guy has been a nightmare ongoing for far too long now.

Looks to me like those pants were made to hang that low, which could very well be the case with any others which you've tried on and had the same issue.  I don't have a Slink body, so I have no idea what's on the market for them.  It does seem strange that so many pants are being made for it that are what I'd call extra-low-rise, so perhaps there is something else going on.

One thing about male mesh bodies is that there's simply not going to be much from which to choose on the market as designers of female clothing are much more plentiful.  Also, a lot of designers rely upon full perm mesh creators to supply them with the mesh with which they create a particular article of clothing.

Therefore, a lot of clothing is the exact same mesh just textured differently.  There simply isn't enough incentive for designers to create as much original mesh clothing as there is for female clothing.  This is always the case, but when you use a mesh body you're reducing your chances of finding something original substantially.

So, yeah... it's going to be harder to outfit a male, mesh-bodied avatar decently.  Persistence is key.

oh yes, that is a thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagging_%28fashion%29

it is multiplied in SL by how few people really make mesh clothes from scratch, especially ones to fit male avatars.  most clothes shops buy prefabs and customize them for sale, so they share the same oddities.

there are male avatars with pants that fit, so don't give up, normal pants are out there!

ehmm... nothing wrong with those pants... it's just as it should be worn :)

When you going to make a wardrobe for him... be sure to select carefully and see if there's the logo or name of the body in the description, because "just" mesh clothes won't fit well. Always use a demo, EVEN when the product stated to be made for that certain mesh body, i already had some diaspointing results for both main mesh bodies.

Some clothing designers never fit their own clothes i think... or they would think twice before using s sl*nk or m*sh pr*ject logo.

Yeah, its very difficult to create a nice looking guy avatar. Roughly 80% of clothing content is female, and the rest is unisexand male. But there are styles that are not the Hip-hop style pant.  Head to the Men's Department to get good original mesh content from some of the best male designers. You can also pick gacha for men at the Fantasy Gacha (look for !gO! and Yasum). There is also The Mens Only Monthly event. We <3 RolePlay usually has some nice things for guys also. You can browse the Mens Fashion Feed to see what all the shiny new things are.

I don't think it's so bad to have a male alt. I do shop from certain stores, but hey, that's how RL works too. I like Casa Del Shai and Deadwool. I think they have original mesh models too.

Of course you sort the stores so newest is first... the top pick for Casa Del Shai in default search is boxers from 2006.

A super belated thanks for all of the help, everyone! It's been an awful week but now I have all of this useful information to come back to!

I'm going to check out the events and stores provided, and in the meantime maybe try not to be so old-fashioned. Back in my day, boys wore their pants all the way up and they liked it! Snow, uphill, both ways, etcetera, etcetera.

If anyone happens to come across any amazing fuddy-duddy pants in the near future as well, please don't hesitate to send LMs my way in-world!

ROAR. I WILL MAKE THIS THING HAPPEN!
