Use the Search in-world to find places to visit that match your interests. Look for groups too, and sign up to receive group notices so that you'll know if they host events. Hanging out at events is a great way to meet people and make new friends. You mentioned that you're interest in roleplay, and there are many kinds of roleplay sims in SL.
