my bank acct has a pending debit for $1 and I have not made a purchase for weeks????????????????????

That's a major problem.  Linden Lab does not charge your bank account.  You have only three options for paying for goods and services in Second Life:  (1) a credit card, (2) a PayPal account, or (3) a Skrill account.  If someone is charging your bank account, it isn't Linden Lab.

Now, it's possible that you are not taking about a bank account at all.  If you have recently done as Linden Lab asked all credit card holders to do, you have re-entered the card information in your dashboard at secondlife.com >>> Account >>> Billing Information.  When you did that, Linden Lab followed standard business practice and issued a small ($1) charge against the card and then immediately reversed the charge to verify that the card was active and able to make and receive payments.  If you tried to register a gift card or a debit card instead of a credit card, the test failed and your card was denied.  It will take a little longer to reverse the charge because those cards are not able to receive money.
