The article is for Windows, but setting up the SN is the same in the viewer once you computer can see the device.

Notice the settings in the Sl preference panels.

Also, test the controller in other software.

Maybe increase the "dead zone" on the troublesome axis, in the Joystick setup page? I had to do that with a Logitech joystick. It became too sensitve to slight movements off the exact neutral point.
