Why is the dashboard using my display name and the forums are using my... that other name?

The most likely reason is because these forums are a third party software and probably have no awareness of the concept of a display name associated with a username.

It is more helpful to have the account name. Occasionally its useful to be able to contact people inworld when they are struggling with the forums & not all viewers can search display names to find people.

Hopefully if display names do ever show here, the account name will still be there too.

Hi, Lithium can support a kind of display name, but they are not really compatible with the SL system. The Lithium ones are separate unique permanent usernames associated with the OpenID logins, and the login name is hidden. Peewee has it totally right, this would make it really hard to match forum users to their inworld selves.

Display names can be changed every week. Usernames are unique.
