where do people go to chat? Welcome Center?

I used to come on second life YEARS ago, and everyone always gathered in the "welcome center" for voice chat

Well no wonder you didn't stay. The Welcome Areas have always had a reputation primarily for trolling and trash-talking.

I can't speak for everyone, but I typically hang out either at locations where my interests are cultivated (cybernetics/future tech, alternative/goth, industrial music, kink, transhumanism/atheism, charity and LGBT stuffs) or where my friends gather (a few are creators, and we show off and gather in awe). I also spend a lot of time alone, because I'm an introvert.

My recommendation really is to use Search to find a small selection of places, and hop around until you find somewhere that's entertaining enough to spend a few hours.

I don't go anywhere to voice chat, I find it to be a horrible experience and would rather listen to music rather than other peoples' coughing and background noise. Text all the way!

There are actually newer welcome centers you can go to where everyone chats on mic still.. Some examples are like Welcome point, Social Island.. they still have griefers and what not but you always get the occasional conversation with people still...

I don't hang at chat or welcome centers cause that is where you meet the worst people just waiting to harass people. Find places with people of like interest and personalities rather than a generalized area.
