Clothes don't appear on avatar except the yellow box type

I have one of the new style default avatars, not the classic style.  The majority of the new clothes I try to put on don't appear at all.  The only clothes that will appear are the ones with the little yellow box beside the item name.  All of the other clothes don't appear to do anything at all even if I take them off altogether.  Is it possible to wear clothes with this avatar other than the ones without the yellow box beside the name?

Thankyou in advance.

You mean, a mesh one? The avatar is a single solid piece.

'Cause you're probably using system layers, which are for system (in your words, 'classic') avatars.

The little yellow box is a cube, and represents an 'object' asset, vs. a clothing layer/landmark/sound/animation.

Uh, no. But why do you want to? System clothes are for system avatars, mesh clothes are for either system or mesh avatars (one or other, rarely both).

You can change from a mesh avatar to a system avatar by removing the avatar mesh, alpha layer, etc. When you're done, you can change back to the mesh avatar.

Oh, and the starter mesh avatars are crazy-basic, and not compatible with any clothes, really. Most users prefer to wear something a bit more useful. They're like a poor mans demonstration, to show you the low end of what can be achieved here.

That way new users don't end up expecting too much.
