Hey SL world...

So I am getting fed up with the upates to the viewers that are making my poor pc work too hard. Up until the previous firestorm update everything had been great. But for the past 6 months I have been having terrible texture errors and have read all the threads on here and made the tweeks to my viewer to try and sort this issue to no avail. Today I did a clean install of the latest viewer with a hope that it would be somewhat better with all the bug fixes listed, but alas it is worse.. now I am freezing every 10 seconds or so and some prims just won't load... I have made sure I have turned off the settings I don't need but am so frustrated. I can make upgrades to my pc if needed as long as it's not the cost of a brand new pc. Not for a few months anyway.

Below are my pc details. I know you will probably crucify my pc lol but please be gentle. I am not tech savvy when it comes to my pc so I hope I am posting the right thing.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Well it is quite a low spec pc, particularly the graphics card and you are running the most bloated viewer.

Your card isn't even listed here but a GTX 660 is a good starting point for running SL

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce-desktop-graphics-cards-uk.html

And your CPU is way down on this comparison list.

I love Firestorm but it does need a fast pc with a half decent graphics card to run smoothly.

So, my suggestion is try Alchemy viewer which runs a little lighter and save up for a nice new PC.

Step 1: fump firestorm. If you can handle the v1 UI look at Singularity or CoolVL. If you want v3 style just try the others till you find what works.

2. Get more RAM. Between windows and SL you will eat through your ram in no time. You will be swapping to disk and it will noticably reduce your performance. Until you get more RAM make sure you don't run any other software while you run SL. Especially not a web browser.

Those two things should help a ton.

i have a 640 at one of my W8.1 systems and can run SL in high mode with shadows, so the card can handle that.

I would look for problems in your processor or connection instead of the other specs of your machine. W7 should be working ok although 3gb memory isn't very much for recent standards, but all your 32b OS can handle.

Set your texture memory to 1024, that's possible in Firestorm now, all what's stored at your machine you don't have to download.

More ram is useless, it's a 32 bit system that supports only up to 3,7 GB of ram.

Using more than 3.7 GB of ram requires a 64 bit operating system

Thank you all for your replies and for not being too harsh on my pc lol

I used to Whirly but did remove it. Does it cause issues then?

I was told the same about Ram, that on my pc it won't actually help. Am thinking I am going to have to wait it out til I can afford a new pc. :(

Bit of an update...

My lovely RL hubby bought me a new pc... specs are below... but it seems to be struggling a little, and I thought this would have been enough for SL tbh. So now I am scratching my head lol He has said we can take it back and get another, so I also have the specs of another one I am looking at listed below..

Do I change it? or is what I have good enough and just needs tweeking?

I really do appreciate your thoughts and input. My pc budget is £700.
