Having a good Internet connection does not mean you have a good connection to Second Life. That you are having DNS problems suggests something in your connection path is not working.

To give accurate answers we need to know a lot about your computer and viewer. Use the viewer's HELP->ABOUT... to get the informaton. Paste it with your tech questions. You can use OPTION in the upper right of your post to to add it.

Mac's have this problem more often than Windows machines.

Whatever your case, look at: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/

since we dont know what we are looking at--

i will just take a shot in the dark....

  1. you might have the wrong viewer installed--- if you have a 32 bit system u might have a 64 bit one installed so thay are not compatible.....
  2. Might be your fire wall-- since SL has SL voice --- sl voice is not able to get get through it- so you will have to check your firewall to see if SL voice is being blocked
  3. another solution is to clear your caches --instructions to do so are here 9even if you HAVE a CLEAN install

    ►(for second life viewer)---https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-improve-Viewer-performance/ta-p/1316923

    (for firestorm viewer) http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear

  4. Speaking of CLEAN install...make sure u did one...some times a DIRTY new install causes some issues to reoccur over and over and over.....
  5. You might have been attacked by DNS changer malware-- i suggest you do a scan on your computer for it as well try to go here http://www.dcwg.org
  6. READ THIS thread....this might help you--- https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/DNS-could-not-resolve-host-name/qaq-p/1047713
  7. And Lastly (which should have been first) <<<LOL   try checking the Secondlife grid status http://status.secondlifegrid.net/

again sorry for all my shots in the dark-- u left me little go go on....

Best of luck to you and i hope all is well,

Lisha
