How do i get my avatar to stop walking backwards every time i go to walk.

It sounds as if he has remapped his keyboard, either accidentally or for some other purpose, so that the FORWARD and BACK arrow functions (or W and S) are reversed.  I'd be very cautious about editing the XML file that maps your keyboard for Second Life, because you can mess things up royally if you aren't.  Take a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Keyboard_mapping , though, so you see how to approach it if you want to try.  Be sure to make a backup file before you do anything, though.
