SSD & HDD (both) which is better? And set up question.

Hi,

I have a gaming laptop with an SSD (128gb) and 7200 HDD, both. I'm wondering if it's better to load/install SL on the SSD or the HDD.. which it will run and cache better from. Thoughts?

Also, I see a lot of posts saying that SL doesn't run too great on laptops, so I'm more than a little worried :/

Can someone tell me if my machine would be okay? Here's the specs:

Intel i7 4720HQ, quad-core, 6m cache, up to 3.60Ghz.
16GB DDR3 1600MHz
Drive 1: 120GB Solid State - Samsung 850 EVO
Drive 2: 1TB 7200RPM, sata, 3gb
Nvidia GeForce 980M 4GB

with such specs ii think you know quite well if your machine is able to handle sl or not.

Run the SL viewer software from the SSD and include cache on SSD
Put the  chat log on the HDD, it is not important for performance speed

I wouldn't worry too much of the laptop, but I would focus on the Internet connection
Cable connection is much preferable for wifi and wireless
Cable, even at the same speed, performs better because it is reliable over time

@Alwin, I honestly didn't know. It's my son's computer who's in college and he said he'd let me use it for awhile. I asked him what he thought but SL is completely different from the kinds of games he's played on it

You have quite a small SSD but loads of ram so one option is to put the cache on a RAM disk. Here's how: http://atob.ws/RamDisk.aspx.

You can specify the file location in the viewer's Preferences

PREFERENCES / Chat / Location
