Bobbie Faulds Posted August 4, 2015 Share Posted August 4, 2015 Fair warning though. There's a gitch that will probably be fixed with the release pack due out in a few days. Internal power error comes up when you do anything that's graphics intensive...ie SL alone is fine. SL plus Photoshop, not. No such problem with Win7. I bet the porn collector will say that too - b4 this interesting incident happened of course. Win10 distributes updates in a peer to peer network that includes all the win10 installations. - MS should communicate that so people know where their update bandwidth goes and dont panic. - It's no problem atm but who knows about risks in the future? - You can switch that off completely or restrict the peer to peer function to your LAN. I was with a friend yesterday when they booted their lap top and we waited 10 minutes for his machine to install updates he didnt even know had been downloaded to him. It's the p2p updates that would concern me most. Does precedent really allow us to believe MS security it so tight that nobody will find a way to inject malware as it passes through their machine? - Malware that thereby gets inserted into the heart of the OS? Oh yes, I was forgetting - with the default data harvesting, Windows 10 is malware already. So there's nothing left to worry about. :matte-motes-dont-cry: The only solution I can see is to fork out the fee for W10 Pro, which claims to be free of these user-exploitation hacks, but can we even trust that claim? :matte-motes-impatient: ETA - does W10 have a malware removal tool? I've stumbled over most of them, read up on a few more .. and overall spent at least three days of continuous "oh, didn't know about THAT one". Derek Torvalar Posted August 7, 2015 Share Posted August 7, 2015 I just finished the upgrade and logged in with Firestorm and got a message that the Viewer couldn't read the saved data files. So I had to re-enter my name and pw as nothing was saved. I will have to go into the Redbook and get all my alts and their pw's re-entered now too. I was hoping to avoid this type of thing because I was planning a clean install of Win 10 but then got the pop-up unexpectedly and went ahead with the write-over upgrade figuring that all the data would be saved. I have one of almost every extant operating system version on my home network - and also some that are supposedly discontinued - and I find that, although the principal Linux variants are significantly less prone to interference and meddling by commercial entities, XP is still the most stable and manageable, and a combination of common sense, Tor and designating a read-only memory card as the C Drive allows me to manipulate disposable online identities and waste the time of data collectors. That reminds of a woman I once knew, Sandi Beech, a wonderful girl who had an equally enthralling friend Tawnee Bush. I had the pleasure of their pleasure one weekend in a November many years ago. To say they were unabashed would be an understatement, and their propensity for them to exhibit their free wheeling spirit often led them to leave the door ajar just enough so anyone passing by may catch a glimpse of the goings on. When I queried them on this they stated that it was nice to see who was looking in from time to time. In much the same way I like to think that it is a two way street. One never knows when you might like to fudge with the data or perhaps send a packet along to those doing the watching.
