The vast majority of SL is built by residents, so it can also be removed by residents.  There is no 'anywhere' built by Linden Lab or guaranteed to remain in world for any period.

So, as the others have said, you must use search or ask people who may have been to those places (for which, see search).

Hey, don't worry :-) If you can't find what you're looking for - build it!  All the tools to make anything are in SL or available as free downloads (if you don't have a graphics program, for instance).

There is a whole category of real life locations in the Destination Guide too http://secondlife.com/destinations/real, and if you find one that isn't there you could sugest it.

When you use the world search, sometimes the places doesn't appear at the top, but if you browse profiles may be someone has a link to that place. But of course, as Peter tells, the contents are created and mantained by residents, and they might remove them without warning.

There is also a category for Castles and Ruins http://secondlife.com/destinations/castles but I think those aren't RL locations.

Have fun!

Only a very small handful of RL locations have been modelled in SL. Ones that do, often disappear after a short while, because the creator cannot afford to keep it open or because they move on to other projects.

Ones that I know are still there are Dublin, London (Marble Arch), and I think Barcelona.

Most places in SL are not copies of anywhere in the real world, they're totally new creations.
