Hi oAura,

The HP tower has an Intel i3 processor with HD 4400 integrated graphics (benchmark score 542)

The Dell tower has an Intel i5 processor with HD 4600 integrated graphics (benchmark score 722)

Intel integrated graphics will give only modest performance in Second Life.

I searched Dell's refurbished desktop page and found an Alienware gaming desktop that has NVIDIA GTX745 graphics with 4GB of video memory...

It's in the price range of your other selections. Although that computer has only 6GB of main memory (both of your Walmart towers have 8GB) it doesn't have to share any of it with the graphics system.

The GTX745 has a graphics benchmark score of 2153 and will give much better performance in Second Life.

I have purchased refurbished computers from Dell in the past and had excellent results. Various models come and go quickly (so you may not find the one I just mentioned), but there are often attractive deals to be had there.

Happy hunting!

if these are the only options available to you...

As a starting point I'd take the i5 Intel CPU [best CPU performance] tower w/Intel HD Graphics but but only if you are planning an adding an additional discrete Graphics Card. If not then the onboard Intel HD 4400 Graphics set on the I3 Tower will get you started in SL with slightly better graphics.

Basically you will need to make 2 additional purchases to make is a great SL PC.

Save for a nice Nvidia/GeForce Graphics Card and a a power supply upgrade. Various price comparisons are found at the link below:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Since the GC will cost you and additional $150 - $250 you might want to save a bit more and get one of these...

Starting at $699.00 with a proper Power Supply & Nvidia Geforce Graphics system. And look! You coiuld get a free big screen monitor .....

EDIT: Snap! My Evil Nefarious Mistress was thinking along the same lines as well. I yell JINX!!!!

You did see that the OP asked about Graphics? Yes? Your answer is useless sweetie. Windows ME, Sure. Why not Windows 98? SL won't accept that OS to run on. That GC is also a piece of junk compared to the anemic Intel 4400 and 4600 motherboard Graphics Sub Systems.

Mind you, the SL Answers Forums is a Help Forum for Sl Users, not a Role Play Joke Forum.
