Wisconsin

A friend of mine, whose grasp of American geography is about on a par with most Americans' knowledge of Europe, wanted to spend a holiday in Wyoming because he had been told that buffalo steak is even better than cow meat.

When he booked his flight, however, he got a bit confused and now he is spending two weeks in Wisconsin ("You mean they have two states starting with the same letter?" ) and apart from reading that they make 3,000 versions of exactly the same neo-cheddar cheese he knows nothing about the state.

So what do you suggest I tell him? What should he eat and drink, where should he stay, which places should he visit, what clothes should he pack for July weather, where are the girls the friendliest, what souvenirs should he buy for his relatives, and what should he avoid.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin.  I suggest that he do some research on the interweeb for places to stay, eat and visit.  I lived in Madison and Milwaukee, both fine places to visit.  July is warm but not terribly so (compared to the southern state in which I now reside) so a mix of warm weather clothing and a light jacket should suffice for cool evenings.

For a souvenir, he should definitely get some cheeseheads to send to relatives.  Avoid mosquitoes.

My friend wants to know if you can ride a horse from Wisconsin to Wyoming, or if there are Great Lakes in the way that would require him to get a ship or plane.

And do they have horses in Milwaukee? Although not to eat.

I ate horse while visiting Spain a few years ago but they don't eat horses in Milwaukee.  You might suggest to your friend they take along maps so they can plot out a route.  The dinosaurs are dead.

Every oater I ever watched horse were the ride of choice when crossing the Rio Grande.

We ate horse here in England for a while a couple of years ago - it tasted like any other frozen lasagne to me.
