I don't want to remember my Rez Day, I don't want your valentines shoes... I don't want any of your other gifts.

I have asked, and asked and ASKED the owner of Je T'aime to PLEASE remove me from there list thath as no opt out. But they never reply. They just keep spamming me. FOR OVER TWO YEARS THEY HAVE DONE THIS.

Surely this should be against some linden policy? To have objects spamming people who goto a location probably once in there life time, and never go back, without an opt out? I mean... thats the purpose of groups right? So you can opt out?

I haven't really been in SL for 2 years now, and I would rather the only SL messages I get be important. All my notices notifications are turned off... I left all unimportant groups, BUT THIS ONE SHOP JUST WON'T STOP! :(

PS: Excuse the caps, I am just very stressed out from an earthquake, (Am in christchurch New Zealand)  I lost my home, among other things its just really not a good time to have to deal with spam like this and I can't move it to my spam folder in my emails because then it puts all SL messages in there.

//end rant

If this is because you belong to the store's group, you can leave or turn off group notices...

and if it's a subscribo thing, you can go to the store and look for the sign where you subscribed.  Usually if you click again you can unsubscribe.

If that's not possible, you can mute the object that's sending you the notices.

Technically speaking, repeated spam IS against the ToS and you could report them.

However, what might be easier to do is to identify the obejct that is sending these messages to you and to simply mute it. For example, if you are getting the messages from a server on the person's land, it should show you the co-ordinates of that server when you get the messages. Simply TP to that location, find the server that is sending the messages and mute it. Unfortunately this does not always guarantee success 100% of the time as some unscrupulous people will only rez out the server when they are sending messages, or keep it well hidden where you can't get access to it.

On a side note, frustrated that you understandably are, you ought to remove the reference to the business in question from your post as it is against the rules to single out people / businesses like that on the forums. (Which is a sensible rule - I'm sure you are probably telling the truth, but without that rule people could come along and make similar false claims against competitors etc to cause drama!)

And folks wonder why I'm such a curmudgeon about joining groups or accepting anything from stores.  One ad a week from you?  That's okay with me.  A daily ad?  Getting a bit too much there.  Multiplied by the hundred or so businesses and all the clubs telling me hourly how much fun I'm missing while I'm offline?  Caps my messages in under an hour, that does.

If your business has a promise of no more than weekly messages, I'll probably accept.  That hasn't been the case though, so I nowdays just want to do my business and then run away.  Just because I'm shopping at your store doesn't mean I want to be your BBF and have long steamy showers with you.

Mute them. Then go to their store and purchase something cheap. IM them and complain that you didn't get your purchase (you really won't get it if you muted them). Since you cannot see their answer to your complaint, IM them three times a day. Threaten with abuse reports. Threaten with legal action. Let them figure it out.

Doesn't IM'ing them un-mute them? I think so. :smileysurprised:

Right, let me put this in correctly

1) Never purchased ANYTHING from them, EVER! I don't play adult human avies so... chances I was buying latex = never... (currently I think im a tiny pink bunny holding a carrot but not able to sign in properly to see.

2) Not in there group, never have been. I have been in SL since beta an the only groups im part of are building groups. I notice that there in many scripting groups (the store owner) and I have a sneaky suspicion back in my "ZOMG ITS MATTY days" they may have just added me to their list.

(For those unknown I use to help moderate and run the Builers Exchange, also Support for Healing Island, and also had my own builders group The Builders Resource Network)

Its not a person thats sending me the spam it appears to be an object, I tried going to there store and finding the object to mute with no luck.

I can't rez an objcet finder in there store to figure out what it is thats spamming me either.

Surely its against some policy right? I mean I am no SL newbie, the end result is THESE constantly end up in my email inbox and I can't spam them because then all second life mails end up in my spam :/

The object 'Je taime NEWS exclusive for LilMatty Althouse' has sent you a message from Second Life: <- object!

So theres no way to unsubscribe... I have a feeling either

1) Its gathering a list of everyone who enters their store to spam them

2) the person is stealing names from toher group lists there in to spam them

3) They just really don't like me. :/ and I'm a target for a reason. aybe i kicked them out of a group once or something similar.

It just occurred to me... if this store owner's IMs are capped, they wouldn't be getting those IM requests to be taken off the list, right?

And I wouldn't discount the possibility that you signed up for the list by mistake. Sometimes when you pop into a sim, a slew of little windows pop up, and it can easily happen that just as you're about to click, another window appears... and you end up keeping or agreeing or discarding the wrong thing.

No they are DEF online, and infact I told them once to remove me when they sent me a "happy rez day" spam and I said thanks but if you read my profile it says mention my rez day and i will mute you, (Put it up every year)

GRRR!! So inconsiderate

Anyway store owner is Marscha Lowey <- so if anyone knows this person tell them to get lost, please :( I'm tired of the spam.

PS: Last im I left them i sent them L so there name was stored in my transaction history. Seeing as getting into SL cost me like 9 dollars each time since I only have mobile internet :/

Earthquakes are not cool :(

Trust me, I didn't sign up :) I am 100% sure of that, I go through all my notifications with precision. Even notices! And I click deny and close on every single one. I never click accept... I have a feeling they have a box in there store just recording names of all the drop-ins, maybe a scripted auto greeter of some kind. Thing is I have asked them MANY times over the last few years to remove me from the list and they have not done so, in my country that kind of electronic spam is illigal and they can get fined and sent to do community service or even jail...

Surely there should be some kind of Linden Policy against spam you can't sign down from. (Or even spam where you didn't sing up in the first place)

Hey Matty, don't usually post and just lurk and read, at least not since they introduced these new forums...

Just wanted to say all that you have contributed to SL over the past years is greatly appreciated, especially all the freebies!

Hope the in-world spam you go through stops soon. I had something happen to me once before the casino ban.

~Fantastical

EDIT: Also sorry to hear about the earthquake, but glad your alive and well.

If the spam is coming from an object, take a look at the email you get from an offline IM. It should give the inworld slurl of the object, so you can then go there and AR/mute it.

And I'm sorry to hear that you've been affected by the earthquake :( I hope things get better there soon.

Sorry for your Lose in the earthquake, hope things will be good soon

For the spam it is easy you have the name of the object whom send you the message click on it choose MUTE

you do not even need to go to the sim or the parcel where object located

for permanent solution just MUTE the merchant him/herself problem solved

PS.: I MUST Remind you mentioning name of store/business/avatar and accuse them of spamming or etc is not allowed on this forums, this against policy here (naming names) just edit your message and remove them

Does it? I'm not sure. Well, in that case the OP could just pretend :) The idea is to give them a taste of their own spam , and also a broad hint that their own customers are muting them if they overdo it.

I just mute. Not the object, the person. I don't care. They're spamming. Call it a "subscribo" if you want. I never clicked anything, and half the time, I'm not even sure I've ever been to their store.

Here's what I don't get...I get messages in my inbox that someone's offered me inventory, but there's nothing in-world. So I get the impression that muting doesn't stop the automated messages to my inbox? So I get spammed either way? Nice. I hope these people are proud. I'd certainly never buy anything from them.

And groups that overdo it...how about a message from a horse-related group that sent the same message (an auction for a certain horse) SEVEN times in one day? "Bid now! 8 hours left!" "Bid now! 7 hours left!" The SAME AUCTION. So when I got in-world, I turned off group notices, muttering under my breath, "Learn how notices work, people. If you've sent it, people got it. You don't need to send a new one for every new person who might be coming online." Idiots.

Hey Matty, very sorry to hear about the terrible effects the earthquake caused, my thoughts are with you all.

I just wanted to say that I am also in the same boat as you...with the very same person/store...I get spam from them ALL the time and I can't for the life of me remember if I've ever even been to their store or anything..to my knowledge, I haven't..yet I still get spam from them nearly everyday. Odd spam too like for reselling vendors and stuff and yea I've never even used a reseller vendor. :smileyindifferent: I also tried TP'ing to the location of the spammer and I can't find it to mute it..so I don't know what to say to help, just that you aren't the only one being spammed :smileysad: Hope we can figure this out.

Good Luck

Here's an idea thst might help. Go to SL Marketplace & buy the Treasure Hunt Hud. This hud can be used to find any named item, not just hunt items, so it's good for finding lost items that flew off somewhere on your sim. Go to the sim with the broadcasting object, wear the hud, & enter the name of the object. If it is on the sim, the hud will help you find where it's located. If it's high above ground level, the search might be harder, but the hud should still help.
