How do I get my avatar as my profile picture

I want to put my avatar in my profile picture.  How do I do that when it is asking me to choose a file from my computer?

You have to save a picture from inworld to your computer. When you take a snapshot, there is an option to save to your computer, so that's the one you need. Then it'll be on your computer, and with some editing, can easily be turned into a forum badge.

The stock viewer won't let you do it like this, but there's another way, if you use a third party viewer such as Firestorm.  Simply drag a snapshot of yourself from your inventory and drop it onto the picture area of your Profile.

If you try this, be sure to take the original snapshot with the same aspect ratio as the profile picture area, to keep it from squishing or stretching.

The same advice applies to images you save to your hard drive.  Crop them to the correct aspect ratio, and then as a last step re-size them to an image with dimensions that are a power of two, like 256x256 or 512x512.  This will make the image look distorted, but it will upload with minimum degradation and will stretch back to the correct aspect ratio when you drop it into the profile picture area.
