Knowl Paine
I have to go to the store but it's freezing outside. Why do I live here?
Cato Badger
Are you an illegal immigrant and can't get a passport to go somewhere warmer?
Knowl Paine
I have a more severe condition, I'm a loyalist. Yes, I know it's a horrible thing to be. Always working with what I have instead of hoping for what I don't have.
Seraphiel Galaxy
Have you tried Iceland? You can BOGOF with the meatballs :smileyvery-happy:
Cato Badger
Loyal to what? Some sort of concept that is ephemeral by any standard? And to the *whole* of that concept or just the parts you like? And in principle or in practice? You seem to be epitomising the principle of "survival of the fit enough" which suggests that those less able to compete expand into less attractive ecological niches. Ishtara
The life expectancy in cold climates tends to be a little higher. Humans are better at adapting to the cold than bacteria, and tropical temperatures come at the price of tropical diseases. Hot climates also go hand in hand with bad water quality and faster food decay rates. Not to forget that increased exposure to intense sunlight causes the human skin to age faster. The only real downside of living in a cold climate is the risk of vitamin D deficiency, but that can easily be balanced out with vitamin supplements. You might also want to look into daylight or full spectrum lamps for phototherapy in order to program your circadian rhythm and prevent seasonal affective disorder. Knowl Paine
@Cato, it's the immigrant thing. I don't want to get caught up in rl issues. There are plenty of Forums for that. It's cold outside and such is life in this region. Was just passing time waiting for the spammer to go away, and now I've become one.
Clonefighter
If you want to move to some place that gets warm, but not hot hot, then come to Maryland. We get just the right mixture of drouts and and heat waves during the summer, and the wheather man is always wrong during the winter.

Cato Badger
@Knowl: There is no need for mining as long as there are people like Homer Simpson who risk their lives every day on the freeway driving to their job at the nucular power plant. Don't they have the internet and home delivery where you are? Obviously when you chose your emigration destination you could have been a little more careful to ensure it had a minimal degree of civilisation. Knowl Paine
If I told you that the source of the non-decaying spin of the electron has been found, a positive non-venting emination responsible for the curvature and warpage of the space time universe; what might you say? Cato Badger
I would probably say that your inability to spell the word 'emanation' correctly casts doubt over anything else you have written.
WinTrain
Well, it's usually cold during the winter. There is some great science behind it all and I would attempt to educate everyone and explain the science but I rather not. I will agree, it is indeed cold, but I enjoy the cold more than the summer.
