Question

I bought a tuxedo with "half" of the items like, cuffs, neck tie & shoes are "boxed" to wear with no problems.

The other half of items like, shirt, jacket & pants are (not-boxed) and "can not" wear with the avatar.

Question: Is there a solution to get (non-boxed) clothing items, that can wear with the avatar?

OK, let's straighten out some terms here.

A "boxed item" simply means that the parts of the thing are contained inside another object or prim, a "box."  A box, therefore, is a container.

The symbol for an object in your inventory is a cube...a, um, box.  However, all this means is that that thing is an OBJECT, as opposed to an animation, a sound file, a photo, or a clothing layer.  Objects ALL have the inventory symbol of a little cube, whether they are a cufflink or a giant airliner.  Objects can be boxes -- that is, they can contain other objects -- but not all objects are boxes (containers), even though they all have that box-like symbol.

Now, clothing can be "clothing layers"...items that have the inventory symbol of a shirt, a jacket, a pair of pants.  This type of clothing is a texture that is painted right on your avatar body.

But now here it gets complicated.  Not all avatar bodies are capable of wearing this type of clothing.  "Mesh" avatars are really an attachment that you wear over your "regular" body.  Clothing layers don't affect that mesh attachment, they are only worn on the "regular" body.

Many of the "starter" avatars are of this type, and it confuses people when the Appearance sliders don't work on them and clothing layers don't show up on them.  You can easily fix this!

Click the Avatars button, the top button on the left side of your screen.  Choose an avatar from the "classic" group.  These are non-mesh avatars, and you can wear your clothing layers with them.  You can also adjust their shape with the Appearance menu.

Happy customizing!
