Hi.

I wish to set up an entertainment venue but need some help badly!

I have the free version of Winamp. Ive installed the plugin, and have a month stream purchased so I can experiment before building my venue.

Winamp and stream SEEMS to be working OK.

Firstly, how do I set up a stream from say a radio station that plays on my parcel when I am not online? I have tried entering addresses in the music URL field, but am not getting any sound. Have tried searching for info in Knowledge Base, but it all seems outdated.

Secondly, and most importantly, could somebody explain the mechanics of how things work when you have say a musician performing at your venue? How does this work? Do you need to enter a different URL in the music URL field? How does the musician broadcast their music? Do you enter thier URL? Ive really no idea on the process here.

I'd really appreciate some help here. A couple of years back I built a great venue, but could not find sufficient help to broadcast, and so scrapped the idea.....  I sooo want to do this and have some great ideas, but until I can get the help and fully understand how this works I cannot continue.

PLEASE help. Im stuck without you!

ANY advice greatly appreciated.

Regards Chris :manhappy:

You should try posting this in the Answers forum.

Have you sought information on the winamp website?  I do not use winamp but I know that it is possible to stream music using it.

Many musicians will use the 'house' stream to perform.  They do not need to give you anything but you must be able to give them the channel on which the house stream sits (or the URL).  Good luck with your dream.

Hi Woody

I'm no expert on this, but can help with basics,  and am guessing you're trying to use SHOUTcast.

re: streaming your own music... you may be missing key components.

1/ You need Winamp (or other player) to play your music,

2/ a plugin for Winamp to export that music, SHOUTcasts Winamp version here (at bottom of page). It is responsible for connecting/authenticating to the server software, then sending your stream to it.
If you use a hired service, they will   provide a url, port number, userid, and a password for you to connect to their server via your  plugin for winamp.

3/ server software to stream (send) that sound to others on the net. It runs on your computer*, or can be hired as you have done. Most popular server software used is probably  SHOUTcast

If a hired service, they also provide a public url address that is used as the end stream (that is what you set into Land settings, or a media player)

*Note: If you wanna run a shoutcast server from a home computer you'll need a lot of bandwidth - mostly upstream. Every extra listener soaks a little more.

4/ Your parcel set to stream a suitable url via media settings. I use a net radio station 'Groove Salad' as a test  - its always on at  http://scfire-ntc-aa05.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1018  if that's not working on your land, you know the issue is local to those settings. I always test with that stream - then i know at least the land settngs are working.
You will have your own url - provided by the stream hire service.

Instructions for setting up
OK so presuming you have the stream hire all set up ok (reply emails with info etc). You need to install the winamp plugin. Then start Winamp, Find Options menu/ Preferences, then scroll down to Plug-ins/ Dsp/Effect and choose Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v2.1.3 from column at right.

You'll get a popup window..
choose top tab 'Output, and then look for the Address, Port, UserID, and Password fields. Fill them in with the information from your stream provider. Note the port number.... that port has to be open through your firewall (a process that i cannot explain here but i can help with -IM me if needed). On the Yellow Pages tab.. switch "make this server public" off (the stream providers url is the public connect point). Also check the Input tab correctly reads Winamp as the input device.

Should now be ready to go..start some music playing in winamp and if all other things in place correctly - you should be able to hear your stream on the land.

NOTE: It can sometimes get confusing with using your computer to send and receive the same music - there will be a delay between. I use another computer to stream than i do to receive.

Finding URLS to use in the Media URL is quite easy in retrospect woody.

If the URLS you have tried don't work you can open many online .pls playlist files to find more urls.

When you go to http://www.shoutcast.com there are listings of stations under various genres with a blue play button.

You right click the blue play button of your desired station and pick "Save target as" or "save link as" depending on browser

It will save a file "tunein-station.pls"

You can now open that said file in a editor like notepad by right clicking it and pick open with and pick your editor.

You will see a list something like the following..

[playlist]numberofentries=29File1=http://78.159.104.152:80Title1=(#1 - 357/700) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File2=http://87.230.103.85:8000Title2=(#2 - 383/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File3=http://188.72.209.11:80Title3=(#3 - 386/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File4=http://188.72.209.68:80Title4=(#4 - 361/700) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File5=http://188.72.209.60:80Title5=(#5 - 387/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File6=http://188.72.209.73:80Title6=(#6 - 389/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File7=http://78.159.104.137:80Title7=(#7 - 390/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File8=http://87.230.103.107:80Title8=(#8 - 391/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File9=http://78.159.104.132:80Title9=(#9 - 394/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File10=http://87.230.103.85:80Title10=(#10 - 394/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File11=http://80.237.152.83:80Title11=(#11 - 394/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File12=http://78.159.104.134:80Title12=(#12 - 395/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File13=http://188.72.209.71:80Title13=(#13 - 395/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File14=http://87.230.103.107:8000Title14=(#14 - 396/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File15=http://87.230.103.9:8000Title15=(#15 - 397/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File16=http://78.159.104.133:80Title16=(#16 - 397/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File17=http://188.72.209.74:80Title17=(#17 - 399/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File18=http://188.72.209.64:80Title18=(#18 - 399/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File19=http://87.230.103.8:80Title19=(#19 - 401/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File20=http://80.237.152.83:8000Title20=(#20 - 402/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File21=http://78.159.104.129:80Title21=(#21 - 402/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File22=http://188.72.209.46:80Title22=(#22 - 402/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File23=http://87.230.103.58:8000Title23=(#23 - 402/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File24=http://87.230.103.8:8000Title24=(#24 - 405/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File25=http://87.230.103.9:80Title25=(#25 - 406/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File26=http://188.72.209.67:80Title26=(#26 - 413/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File27=http://87.230.103.58:80Title27=(#27 - 421/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File28=http://78.159.104.131:80Title28=(#28 - 443/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1File29=http://78.159.104.130:80Title29=(#29 - 462/750) top 100 station - Germanys No.1 Web Hit StationLength1=-1Version=2

The Download for this file is seperated by the ID of the station like the example below

http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=1377200

You can now use any of the IP server addresses from the playlist file above, which has the least user count noted like  443/750 means 443 listeners out of a possible 750 on that single server.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Jub Jub.

MANY thanks for your help.

Using LuschSound for stream with Winamp and Shoutcast.

I now have the station you recommended playing on my land! Regarding streaming my own music, what is the best way to go about listening to your own stream? Sadly I only have one PC. Am I correct in saying Winamp MUST be open all the time you are streaming?

Do I just leave Winamp open as my listening source? I read somewhere that you had to turn off the parcel media as it would use too much bandwidth?

And lastly if I may...

Do you know the best place for info regarding playing a musicians music through the stream? Im clueless here. I also need to find out what musicians etc charge, but dont know where to start looking for all this info!!

Again MANY MANY thanks. At least Im heading in the right direction!!

Chris

Don't know luschsound and can't find it in google.

Winamp must be open but you can turn it's volume down, with that down you should be able to listen to parcel media as normal thru the SL viewer. You must leave Winamp playing to output the streamed music.

As for playing a musicians stream... usually they come with their own... you simply change the parcels music address settings to their address. Its fairly simple to have a script with a number of streams on click... I use that to change to musicians stream when they're ready (with a test beforehand).

As for charges - my experience with musos is they charge a base fee, and they get to keep tips. Fees vary widely. Many bring their own fanclub.

Thanks AGAIN!

Dont suppose you could point me in the right direction for the script you mentioned for changing the stream?

I REALLY do appreciate your time :)

Lusch Audio (Sorry not Lusch Sound) is in SL. (Not sure who was the best, just wanted to try first. Can look around when Ive sussed all out.)

  • 3 months later...

Your shoutcast web admin panel should have a script that you can copy the code and paste it into your own web pages.
If it's a flash based player then you would also have to download the flash files and upload them to the same directory.
That's if you want to have your station on a webpage :)
This site has some great channels di.fm
