Users repeatedly see"Passwords must be between 6-16 characters long"when joining sl for the 1st time

Some users who wish to join sl for the first time after creating a new username and a password between 6-16 characters long receive the message "Passwords must be between 6-16 characters long" over and over and can not join SL since sign up can not be completed.

Thats strange, who are these "some users"?  Are they people you know that are all trying to join today or something?

They could try using one of the 3rd party portals:

I see this mentioned a few times on Googling it but I don't think it happens very often and I doubt it's a SL application page bug. Clearing internet browsing history (i.e temporary files, history, cookies, saved passwords and web form info) before trying again to enter password may very well fix it.

If that does not work, and the person still exeriences that password issue trying to join Second Life, all he/she has to do is go to the Second Life Home page, click the Help menu, log in with a guest email and from the Support menu select Account Creation Issues.  Support should be able to assist.

Right but sl no longer uses those last names. as Nyll pointed out many people have posted in forms about this so I decided to place one on the community page in hopes that a solution is found for such cases.

Last names are still valid in SL, some people use the portals because they actually prefer to get one of the oldstyle names instead of having the default "Resident" last name & its good to have the option if the main registration isn`t working for you
