won't let me check out of Market Place keeps telling SL hand shake failed

Simple Answer: Your Internet Browser Session request to access the Check Out Page was rejected.

Longer Answer: OK, this can happen if your Internet Browser is not in perfect working order. Internet Explorer gets a bad rap in this regards since is is so widely used as the default browser for your Internet experiences. The trick for all MarketPlace activity is that your session passes an excrypted transaction identifier called a GUID that re-identifies you to the SL Market Place servers from product screen to product screen and then to the Checkout screen.

When this identifier gets damaged then your handshake with the Market Place is broken. BTW - This can also happen within the SL Server farm but then 1000's would be complaining.

What causes this?: If your Internet Browser is infected with any kind of hijacker application you can get this error as they can't figure out how to properly intercept your shopping activity with SL's MarketPlace. This also happens when you have too many security toolbars and/or an over active security software solution that fools with your firewall settings.

Solutions:

Quick Ones:

1) Download and install another Internet Browser and try completing your purchase using it.

If 1) Works don't start patting yourself on the back for fixing your SL issue yet. Your PC is still infected with PUPs [Potentially Unwanted Programs], Spyware and possibly Trojan Horses.

Advanced Ones:

2) Delouse your PC. Here are the products I recommend to start with:

a) QUICK CLEANUP - DL and run AdwCleaner - AdwCleaner is a program that searches for and deletes Adware, Toolbars, Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP), and browser Hijackers from your computer.  By using AdwCleaner you can easily remove many of these types of programs for a better user experience on your computer and while browsing the web.

If a) finds a lot of issues it will clean many and break the operational status of the rest. ALways follow AdwCleaner up with a system scan using the following software:

b) DL and run SUPERAntiSpyware - SUPERAntiSpyware is a free anti-spyware program that offers excellent detections and quick removal of common infections. As malware is constantly evolving and new variants are released, there is not one particular security program that will be able to protect you from all threats.  Therefore it is important to have a variety of programs in your security toolbox that you can use to scan your computer for malware and aid you in their removal.  SUPERAntiSpyware is definitely one of the programs that you want to have at your disposal.

Finally your Windows PC should always have these additional protection programs in it:

c) Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home or small business PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. 

d) Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit - Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit is a security program that protects you from zero-day exploits that target browser and application vulnerabilities. This program is meant to run alongside your traditional anti-virus or anti-malware products and provides extra protection against software and Windows vulnerabilities that are discovered, but do not have a patch available to fix them.

Basically if you fell for any "OMG Your PC is Running like crap and this will fix it for you!" pop-up and downloaded the recommended software then you have PUPs, Spyware & probably a few Trojan Horses on your PC. Virtually all these pop up helps are fake or are legitimate products that have been repackaged with garbage spyware software as well. [This the reason there are so many Apple Mac Users in the world] - Here are my 2 most highly recommended PC tune-up utilities and they are 100% free.

I'm including safe DL links so you won't be fooled when looking for then on the Internet as so many fake sites are slamming them with bogus DL pages. e) Wise Disk Cleaner 8.41 - direct download - This cleans up all the junk from your HD whenever knew was there.

f) Wise Registry Cleaner 8.31 - direct download - This will clean up your registry and on tab 2 TUNE up your PC with safe and standard registry tweaks making it a happier faster SL PC.

There are also many very esoteric things you can do to make SL run faster on your PC but those are harder to implement because they require that you modify your registry and of hardware device driver settings.
