Happy Hump Day short week celebration!  Hopefully you get Thursday (4th of July) and Friday off!    We are 243 years young on Thursday as a country.  Getting pumped for the Sestertius 
(250th anniversary) in 2026!  Jeez the Bicentennial just seemed like yesterday😊

P.S.  We are super young compared to England which is 1091 years old!

I woke during the wee hours the other day to get a glass of water. I turned on the kitchen lights, and soon heard the chirping of the cardinal who's nest is just outside my kitchen window, in a small tree near my patio. I'd apparently fooled her into thinking it was dawn. To be sure, I turned off the lights and listened for a few minutes in the darkness. Silence. I turned the lights back on the the she started chirping again.

Today I pruned the trees on the patio, which must have felt like the Blitzkrieg, with branches falling all about her nest. This afternoon I spied the first of my new neighbors...

I expect to have four more in the next day or two.

I don't have a telephoto lens that can reach, but through my binoculars I now spy four gaping mouths and one laggard egg. It's been amusing watching Dad feed the li'l rascals. Here's how I imagine the dinner chat...

Chick#1: I'm hungry, FEED MEEEE!
Dad: Alright, already, here's a watermelon (as he crams it down the kid's throat... whole).
Chick#2: Where's mine?!!!
Dad: Jesus, hang on a minute.
Chick#3: At least he doesn't sit on us, like Mom.
Chick#4: Let's play knock knock with the egg!

It is indeed.  Average temperature in Florida this time of year is 90 to 95F. In Canada were we were the low was 35F and the high was around 80F. I am back in the oven!
