0 Lindal Kidd
Read the following: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919?lang=en-US https://secondlife.com/my/whatnext/basics/?lang=en-US https://secondlife.com/my/whatnext/video-tutorials/?lang=en-US You don't get an island automatically. If you become a Premium member, one of the membership benefits is a free Linden Home. You can also rent land on the Mainland or on a Private Estate, and those don't require a Premium membership. Virtual land in Second Life is a complicated subject, and I recommend that you don't worry about getting land just at first. Spend a few weeks exploring Second Life and learning how things work here, before jumping into the murky waters of land ownership.
0 Rolig Loon
Read the articles that Lindal recommended carefully. Land is expensive. You have to pay the initial purchase price and then you have monthly land fees to pay as long as you own the land. The larger the piece of land you own, the higher the purchase price and the monthly fees are. For example, the monthly fees for an entire region (island) on the Mainland are $195. The fees on a private region are twice that. See https://secondlife.com/my/account/landfees.php? If you rent, your weekly or monthly rent payment is likely to be slightly higher than the land fees that your landlord has to pay Linden Lab, because the landlord is in business to make a profit. The bottom line is that most residents own or rent only small parcels of land until they are well established in Second Life or have a substantial budget. Many do not own or rent at all. That's fine, because you do not need your own personal space to enjoy Second Life. You can explore and enjoy the world with no home at all.
0 Syo Emerald
I'm curious to know where you came up with the idea that you would get a whole island (or anything else) for free automatically after creating an account. This is not how any of this works. Second Life is not a game. Its not "The Sims".
