While it is certainly possible to enter Second Life from your web browser like that, it's not the way most people do it.  The normal way to log in is to click the Second Life icon on your desktop.  That will open your SL login page. (By the way, I assume that you have downloaded and installed a viewer,  You have, haven't you?)

If you do want to enter from your web browser, you'll need to teach your browser how to recognize a Second Life URL (called a SLURL locally) first. Otherwise it will give you the same dumb response you have just seen.  You can do the setup manually, but it may be easier to follow the instructions at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/slurl_proxy .  The free software available there will complete the setup for IE, Firefox, or Chrome.

Before you get much farther in Second Life, I recommend reading http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919
