Muting forum posters: Is it an option?

Question

I don't spend much time on the forums so I'm not sure about this. I want to know if there's a way to mute posters so you don't have to sift through all their redundant, inflated sense of self importance prattle in order to actually follow the base thread.

If so, kindly advise how to do it. Please and thank you.

The short answer is "no".  If you don't see a button or option placed anywhere on the interface, then it doesn't exist...that should be obvious to most people.  I, too, wish there was such a feature........it would cut down on the threads with almost the identical title (I would love to block such silly threads myself).

All that said, I did say the short answer is "no".  There is an add on for Firefox that I understand does a pretty good job.  Head on over the the General Discussions forum.  Someone there will be happy to point you to where you can find that script.  I believe either Cerise Sorbet or Void Singer wrote it and both are regulars over there.  Until you install it do as most people do.......scroll past the stuff you don't want to read.  It's much easier to install and configure for your system.  And every bit as effective.

And, if there was a mute (actually, in forum terms, it's "ignore") button you would likely not yet know that the short answer is "no"........and that there is an option.

Not everything someone says is going to be music to your ears all the time.  But those of us who occassionally sing off key, actually do deliver some tibbits of harmony......even music.

I'll go back to my ignoring threads asking questions that the asker already knows the answer.  I guess I'm in one of my moods.

If your response to Peggy trying to help you is an example of your normal forum attitude, it would be you that such a button would be used on the most.

Eh, I don't mind. Following-the-herd style camaraderie ain't my thing, but if such a feature should ever be implemented, feel free to keep me in mind.

No, there is not.

But there are two tings that you can do:

  1. Request that feature voting the appropiate JIRA: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-1074 But that's just my opinion
  2. Be yourselfe the first to be polite in your answers. But that's just my opinion

tl:dr

But only because I see from her first response that the OP has an inflated sense of self-importance and felt the need to prattle on in a redundant fashion to the very first poster who, despite the fact that the OP felt the need to be a smart ass twice in response, actually DID give the OP exactly what she requested.  Anything such a person would write is clearly tl and not worth reading.

Feel free to use the Firefox feature to ignore me in future threads.  If you need help finding it, it has been posted on dozens of occasions in this Forum and can easily be found by using the "Search" feature in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

i have installed (but rarely use) the forum ignore by cerise sorbet - http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/89638. it works for firefox, opera and safari i think, and you need to have greasemonkey installed. it will give you the word "ignore" under the poster's picture and when clicked the content of the post is hidden, but the post title still remains. so for example if an ignored/muted person is starting a thread there is no way to hide the thread title. you can at any time "unignore".

in addition to this there is also mentioned another way here: - http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Blog_survival_kit under "ignore list", called afPlonkJive. i haven't tried this.

and. the jira irene linked to is also good
