This is happening to a number of people.  Please uninstall and do a clean reinstall of the previous version.  Instructions here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231

If you did not save the previous version's installation file in your Downloads folder, try one of the many third party viewers.

I don't think we have seen any word yet on why but there are quite a few people having problems with the latest release. It is a good opportunity for you to try out one of the third party viewers such as Alchemy, Firestorm or Singularity which you will find easy enough on google or on the third party viewer page which you can get to from the Download Second Life link at the bottom of this page.

Without a doubt there does seem to be a problem with the sl veiwer, i have tried and tried for myself and found out, even fixes also.

But my only alternative was to get a veiwer from http://www.firestormviewer.org/downloads/ to log in again.
