No, LL doesn't accept gift or prepaid cards.  Some of the third party $L resellers will accept them, but this will only let you buy $L.  It won't help with a Premium membership.

LL accepts most major credit cards, or a verified PayPal account.

EDIT:  It's very kind of you to want to send your friend a gift card to get her started.  However, you can be just as helpful by taking her shopping and getting her some nice skin, hair, and clothes!

In general, no.  Read Linden Lab's official statement carefully:

Issues with prepaid and gift cards

A common cause of payment method failure is the use of unsupported card types. At this time, the majority of prepaid cards are not compatible with our system, even if they bear the VISA/AMEX/Mastercard logo. This includes cards purchased at retail stores, rechargeable credit cards, and bank-issued check cards.

Notice that it says "the majority of prepaid cards".  Gift cards will not work and prepaid cards that you cannot add more money to will also not work.  That rules out almost all prepaid cards (including Green Dot), except for a few that you can add money to -- refillable prepaid cards.  You may be able to find one of those that works, but the better advice is simply to register a verified PayPal account with Linden Lab, as Lindal recommended.

All we can tell you is in that official statement. Most prepaid cards do not work. However, you may be able to use that prepaid card to put money in your PayPal or Skrill account. If you can do that, then just use PayPal or Skrill to buy L$.
