Changing avatar appearance, even gender, is simple in Second Life. You can choose avatars from the Clothing folder in Library or obtain replacements from various freebie shops or buy some classier ones if you have Lindens. Everything can be changed from shape, skin, hair, clothes etc. You can be whatever you wish and change as often as you wish.
