"Multiple viewer" can mean two different things.  When you check that box, it means that you can launch the viewer twice to log on to two different accounts (your main account and an alt) at the same time.  You cannot log in with ONE acount twice, because you can't be in to places at once.  If you try, you get an error message that the viewer is already running.

In another context, "multiple viewer" can mean that you log in with the Linden Lab standard viewer and, for example, Firestorm.  You don't need to check any box to allow that.  Just fire up both viewers. Again, you can't log in with the same account on both at the same time, but you could be running two different viewers at once.

In either case, if your own computer is powerful enough to handle it, you can run the second viewer on a separate screen.  You'll have to follow the instructions for your own computer's graphics cards and software if you want to do that.

Hi Ave,

Checking that box is half the solution for running multiple copies. You also have to do a bit of futzing (that's technical jargon) to get the OS (whether Win or Mac) to understand that it shouldn't just move focus to a running copy of the viewer when you double click the app icon again.

Here's a Wiki page dealing with this. It's got some old information in it, but that's actually been more useful to me than the most recent additions...

If you are on WIndows, I think the "--multiple" addition to the Target field of the Shortcut may be what you need.

Good luck!

Here is the real fast answer that you want!

  1. Start the SL Viewer. On the login screen, change the Mode dropdown to Advanced and restart the Viewer.
  2. Select Me menu > Preferences.
  3. In the PREFERENCES window, click the Advanced tab.
  4. Enable Allow Multiple Viewers
  5. Click OK.

That is it  and it works perfectly!
