Question

Hello!

I bought a new computer that came with windows 8.
Installed second life again, but a few days since then, the screen flickers and it turns itself off, as if the region were restarting. I did a compatibility test on the system and accused the second life is incompatible with windows 8.

WIndows 8 can be a little tricky sometimes, so you probably need to reinstall your SL viewer.  Do it manually this time, not just downloading a new file and installing it automatically.  Here are some fine, detailed instructions, provided by one of the other volunteers here, KarenMichelle Lee >>>

Windows 8

    1)   Open C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local and delete the contents of the SecondLife folder.
    2)   Open C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming and delete the contents of the SecondLife folder.
    3)   Uninstall Second Life using the Programs and Features tool in the Windows Control Panel.
    4)   Download and install the latest release of the Second Life Viewer from http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/.

Note: <username> is your PCs Windows 8 User Account Login Name

If you can't see the files or folders described above:
    1)   Using File Explorer navigate to -> Libraries / Computer / ( C: ) / Users /
    2)   Press the Continue button to get permission to obtain permanent permission edit this directory.
    3)   From the View drop-down menu option select Options & Change Folder & Search Options
    4)   Select the View Tab
    5)   Under the Hidden Files and Folders options click on the - O Show hidden files, folders & Drives radio button
    6)   Push the Apply Button then the OK button.

When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. Help->About... provides all the version numbers we need.  To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.

It also helps to know if you are using a laptop or a desktop and a wired or wireless connection between the computer and gateway and/or between the gateway and ISP. T-Mobile and other ISP’s use a wireless system to connect to you.

Without information all we can do is guess. That means you have to try all our bad guesses and eliminate them one by one. This is easier for all of us, if you give us good information to start with.
