How do I untick "I would like to receive offline IMs via Email". Keeps saying Password incorrect.

Have verified.  pw is correct.  Won't let me untick that entry.  Don't want any more spam in my mailbox.  Getting ridiculous amounts.

...is misleading. It appears to be asking for your e-mail password for verification when it's actually asking for your SL password. Which password did you enter? The only place that should ever ask for your e-mail password is your e-mail program or website. Try it with your SL password and it should work. If not, try a different web browser like Firefox or Chrome. SL doesn't like IE.
