If your shape is No Modify, you can't.  Get a modifiable shape.  You can start with any of the free Standard Sizing for Mesh shapes available in the Marketplace, or any of the modifiable shapes included in your Library.

To modify your shape, right click your avatar and select Appearance/Edit Shape.  Then start playing with the adjustment sliders.

Several sliders affect height, including height, neck length, torso length, hip length, and leg length.  At full extension, a female avatar can be almost 8 feet tall (although some proportions will look strange, especially arm length.)

Hi Shorty!

I see Lindal types faster than I do!

If you have a modifyable shape, there will be numerous sliders available in "Edit My Shape". I'll caution you however that tall SL avatars very often have unnatural proportions, the most egregious being abnormally short arms.

Penny Patton wrote a nice article about avatar proportions...

Here's a forum thread she started on the topic...

Here's a YouTube tutorial about shape editing. It's a bit long winded, but gives you a chance to see the effect of various sliders before you dive in yourself...

If your shape is no-mod, dig around in the library to see if there's a modifable shape there. And finally, before jamming sliders all over the place in the shape editor, make a copy of your shape to experiment on. You don't want to find yourself looking like a freak of nature just moments before being invited to a posh dance.

That has never happened to me.

Nope.

Never.

;-).
