Hi, Thanks for any help.  May I ask, If I have a sky box  that is a round globe and is 100 meters across in diameter, what size piece of land will it fit on.  Will it fit on a 2048? or do I need less or much more.  Im brain dead tonight from a long day and cant seem to figure it out.   Any help would be appreciated. It would not fit on a 1024 I assume. Thanks for any help.

hello paxpax

Yes, as Perrie says an object with a 100m diameter (100 x 100) needs 10,000 m.sq.

In SL  isn't easy to find a parcel 100x100 So for the object you bought it needs a 1/4 of a SIM (16,384m) to be rezed.

If it was 90x90, it could fit into a 8,192m parcel, but it is also hard to find a square 1/8 SIM. Usually they are 64x128 as it says in the board bellow copied from SL Wiki

So, my suggestion is, first select the size of land you can afford and then buy the object.

Objects can be sold in very reasonable prices  "here"

List of land types

Additional Land Parcel Size (m2) Square Equal Line Length (m) Max Prims
1/128 Mainland Region 512 22x22 (16x32) 117
1/64 Mainland Region 1024 32x32 234
1/32 Mainland Region 2048 44x44 (32x64) 468
1/16 Mainland Region 4096 64x64 937
1/8 Mainland Region 8192 90x90 (64x128) 1875
1/4 Mainland Region 16,384 128x128 3750
OpenSpace 65,536 256x256 750
1/2 Mainland Region 32,768 181x181 7500
Homestead 65,536 256x256 3750
1 Mainland Region 65,536 256x256 15,000
+1/2 Mainland Region (when already at US$195 level) 32,768 181x181 7500
Private Island on pre-2007 server technology (second hand purchase only) 65,536 256x256 15,000
Private Island on current server technology 65,536 256x256 15,000

Cheers,

beets ;)

You could check your tenancy agreement and\or your neighbours to see what it allows above ground level. If the sphere is just phantom with a sky sphere texture on the inside then the land impact will count against its centre and overhanging other peoples parcels may be allowed or something they are happy for you to do.

  • 1 month later...

"my experience is that people not like overhanging stuff from neighbours, you can say it's only overhanging and not using prims, but you privacy is totally gone"

My neighbor had rezzed some ugly giant rocks as a screen between our properties. Unfortunately for her they extended slightly over the property line.

I went into my about land, options tab and unchecked allow object entry by all residents.

I was then able to return the rocks that were over the property line, even though they were centered on her property, and did not count to my prim total.

:)
