BloodyKitty230
Like always, apologies if it's not in the right section of the tech forum. I just have a question about the loading in SL. When the game loads after login or teleporting, is it normal to have everything gray at first or should it be showing everything right away (depending on your settings)? Because for me it shows a lot of gray things at first. Could it be my connection that makes it that way despite me having a low-end computer? By the way I'm using Singularity viewer. (but it happens on the official Second Life viewer too)My connection is a wired one and it's really good with the bars on the signal strength are all green, meaning excellent. I really want to play SL but I can't stand all the gray and not being able to really put the settings on medium at least to make it seem pretty. Freya Mokusei
It's probable that your graphics card doesn't have much memory, or is otherwise slow at responding - but you should report this back to us so we can be sure. Some delay is normal, but you'd expect your cache to be keeping up with some objects if you're going to familiar places. Second Life puts more strain on a computer than most top-end PC games, and a heavier load on your network than 30 separate web-browsers - slow or aging hardware works as a bottleneck, limiting your experience. All content in Second Life is streamed from the Internet. This includes textures, so they will always load with some delay. Connection issues are way more likely than graphics card issues, but since you can't get above Medium on SIngularity I'm guessing your machine is - overall - significantly under-powered. Post your PC specification (at least from Help > About in your viewer, but the more information the better), and the results of a Speedtest from TX, USA to get more specific help. BloodyKitty230
In a way I sort of figure like that's the deal because of how this is a refurbished computer (not sure if it makes a difference). And by the way, report back to you in what way exactly? ^^' In some ways I sort of assumed something like that but I didn't know that it makes a heavy load on networks, that's interesting to say the least. Since this laptops at the end of its rope (fan wise), there's no use in trying to fix it or it's connection or even the graphics card unless I REALLY wanted to play SL. --- For the speedtest the result was: (I'm not sure what part of Texas you want it from so I just chose the closest part) Ping: 62ms Download speed: 47.43Mbps Upload speed: 10.52Mbps --- Here are my specs : (if you mean This chipset is quite a way past its best, and it's not a dedicated card. With 358Mb of VRAM, you're well below what's recommended for Second Life. Your scenes will load eventually, but basically your graphics chipset is slowing most of it down - everything needs to pass through it, and it can't keep up. Your network looks good, and you could use some more system memory (2Gb, 2048Mb is the bare minimum for Windows Vista, Second Life will want about 1-2Gb just for itself). The Core 2 Duo range was never particularly effective, and significantly better options are available. With it being a laptop, upgrade options are limited without a full replacement. I'd guess it's mostly dependant on how much you're happy to live with this - it's pretty much the experience I would expect on hardware like this. Hope that helps. BloodyKitty230
That is unfortunate. Oh well I guess right? Well thank you for helping and all the info you have give me about MB, networks, and just everything you could let me know about. I think I will take a break from SL till I get a new computer from a giveaway (if I win)
